These Are “America’s Ideas.” December 22, 2008

Every minute another American posts an idea or suggestion on change.gov for the Obama/Biden Administration. Tens of thousands have been posted since Early December. Many of them are impractical or unworkable and many of them are brilliant and inspired. Dozens of volunteers poured through thousands of posts to find the best of the submissions and suggestions. Those selections will be available here for you to review, improve and expand upon. Our goal is to grow these ideas into opportunities for America to grow.

January 24, 2009, Los Angeles: The Committee held it’s first virtual think tank session on the first of “America’s Ideas” from those selected for development by IAPIA in their White House Office of Creative Affairs proposal. (We believe our proposal and working prototype has had some small influence on the ultimate deployment of the White House Office of Public Liaison.) Be that as it may, there has been so much support for the idea of an online “Think Tank For America,” that even after the Inauguration, the Committee and the IAPIA made the decision to keep going as long as the ideas were coming in. The first eight of “America’s Ideas” are now posted and The Committee has begun the daily work of expanding their scope, opening them up to public discourse and hopefully an ultimate realization. Below is a simple write-in solution for inspiring U.S. Economic Recovery. A great example that no idea is too small.

The time has come for the Big Ideas to emerge. Unemployment is higher than at any time since the Great War. Economic disasters lie around any given corner. Our nation needs new ideas and we need them now. Nothing has the power of a great idea and the will power to see it brought to light. Millions of jobs, billions of products, Trillions of dollars, all hinge on American Innovation.
At no time in our history has the flow of ideas been so active. The willingness of the Obama/Biden Administration to open the proposal process and the channels of interactive media to the American people has opened a floodgate of ideas, suggestions and just outright brilliance of thought.
It will take all of this and more. But what happens to all of this creativity? What will become of America’s Ideas once the Transition Team charged with their collection is dispirsed and the Administration-elect becomes the Administration for real? The world is a dangerous place right now. How much of a chance will David Stillwell’s idea about using the tops of container trains as east-west solar energy farms that follow the sun on rails? Or will it wind up in a file box next to the sled “Rosebud” and the “Lost Ark.”
Not on our watch. We have been harvesting “America’s Ideas” for the past three months. We have archived more than 5,000 so far. They are being catagorized and combined for posting right here. Once they are posted (along with links to their respective creators) then we invite anyone who can add to the ideas posted, to do so.
We intend to do our part to help incubate, seek funding for and realize as many of these hopes and dreams as possible. We hope you will join us. We hope you will browse through “America’s Ideas” to see where your ideas may make all the difference for a small town. Or an unemployeed pipe fitter. Or a graduating engineer.
Think hard America. Your future is well worth the effort.
